Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is probably one of the least visited of the northern Tanzanian game parks, and retains a real air of undiscovered Africa, particularly in the south of the park. Just two hours drive away from Arusha. It lies a little distance to the south east of Lake Manyara and covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers. It is named after the Tarangire River that flows through the park. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the largest number of species in one habitat anywhere in the world; on drier ground, the Kori bustard – the heaviest flying bird – can be found. The huge mobs of elephant are easily encountered in any season.

Enjoy the first day of your safari with game drives in this unique national park where mighty baobab – the tree of life – tower majestically over the savannah can be seen.

Meal plan: Full Board

Accommodation: EcoScience Camp/ Tarangire Safari Lodge.

Night game drives are also available where you can see nocturnal animals such as civets, genets, aardvarks, bush babies and various night birds. (Optional Activity: US$125 per person, inclusive of Tanzania National Parks night game drive fees.)

After a leisurely breakfast, head in the direction of Lake Manyara for a game drive. Lake Manyara is a soda lake at the Great Rift Valley, known for the migratory pink flamingos.

Day 4: Transfer to Serengeti National Park via Ngorongoro

Continue your journey to Central Serengeti with game drives en-route. You can have an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge where the homonid and other significant archaeological discoveries have been made. Drive to your camp for dinner and overnight.

Meal plan: Full Board

Day 5: Full Day in Serengeti National Park (Central)

There is no bad time to visit the Serengeti as every season has its own special highlight – even the rainy season has the daily thunder and lightning to look forward to. Changing seasons and light patterns form the most beautiful backdrop to view Africa’s majestic and incredible wildlife.

Meal plan: Full Board

Accommodation: Katikati Tented Camp

Day 6: Serengeti National Park: Seronera – Kogatende area:

Early morning breakfast then depart for game drives at the northern Serengeti near Masai Mara and Serengeti border.

Wildebeest Migration – July to October:

This is the long dry season and the wildebeest migration is moving north with the thundershowers. August is time for the Wildebeest annual rut (mating) and this generally happens in Masai Mara and in the very North of the Serengeti National Park in an area called Kogatende. But, 10 Days Private Guided Tanzanian, before reaching the mating grounds the Mara River needs to be crossed and this provides for some amazing wildlife viewing.

Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest can congregate at crossing points: all crossing in a single continuous wave of beasts. And all this while tooth and claw are waiting around the sides to pick off the weak and the careless.

Besides the amazing wildlife in Kogatende another very positive feature is that there are very few lodges and camps here so all the viewing can happen with few others around. Enjoy evening game drives with your expert guide then drive to your camp for dinner and overnight.

Meal plan: Full Board

Accommodation: Chaka Camp

Day 7: Full day at Kogatende area:

Early morning breakfast and then depart for full day game drives in Kogatende with your expert guide.

Many visitors only want to see the river crossings but the true spectacle of the migration is more than 1,245,000 wildebeests, 200,000 Burchell’s zebras, 18,000 elands and 500,000 Thomson’s Gazelles filling the entire stretch of landscape. The shifting columns of the herds as they traverse the valleys and the hills can only be watched in awe. There is nothing else like this on earth.

Meal plan: Full Board

Accommodation: Chaka Camp

Day 8: Kogatende –Ngorongoro crater rim:

Leisurely breakfast and then leave Kogatende with your packed lunch and head towards the Ngorongoro crater rim while enjoying game drives on the way. In the late afternoon, proceed to your lodge to enjoy watching the breathtaking African sunset over the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

Meal plan: Full Board

Accommodation: Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge or Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Day 9: Ngorongoro crater tour – Arusha:

Leave very early in the morning for game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the Ngorongoro caldera to view the wildlife on the crater floor. “The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World’.

A massive extinct volcano, the sheet walls drop thousands of feet to a “Noah’s Ark” of animals on the verdant floor below. Large herds of zebra, 10 Days Private Guided Tanzanian, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist.

The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera of the once-volcanic Ngorongoro shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth, ringed with towering walls and sheltering forests, grasslands, fresh springs and a large soda lake.

Leave the crater in the afternoon and drive back to Arusha overnight.

Meal plan: Bed & Breakfast

Accommodation: The African Tulip

Day 10: Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport

Enjoy the last day in Tanzania at your own leisure. If time permits, you can do an Arusha town tour before transferring to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO).

Best Time To Visit – Uganda

The best time to visit Uganda is from June to August and December to February, which are the Dry seasons. Wildlife viewing is at its peak then. Primate walks in the forest are a big part of any safari in Uganda. The habitat of rainforests is, by default, very wet, and you can’t avoid rain completely. However, after heavy rain, the skies often open up to bright sunshine.

Is it safe to travel to Uganda?

Uganda is a safe country to visit, especially when your part of an organized game drive with private guides, as you will be with us. These tours are designed to enhance your safety and provide you with a well-guided experience. There are, of course, some places to avoid in big cities like Kampala or Entebbe. But – as with everywhere else in the world – you’ll be fine by taking some precautions. Just some examples to be on the safe side, pun intended, don’t explore the city at night without a driver or guide, keep your valuables close to you, avoid wearing prominent and visible jewelry, and leave some things like passports in the hotel safe.
