5 Days Rwanda Gorillas and primate walk

This 5 Days Rwanda Gorillas and primate walk in Rwanda include; Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park, chimpanzee trekking, and primate watch in Nyungwe forest national park known for its diverse unique features and several primate species.  Both hikes can be challenging depending on where the chimpanzee or gorillas nested the previous night. Chimp trekking differs because the sightings are a bit more sporadic and rushed because chimpanzees mainly is up in trees moving up and down, as opposed to gorillas that stay for a while in one location, None the less it’s a worthy experience for a lifetime. You will also the cool breeze of Lake Kivu.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park

On arrival at Kigali airport, you will be picked up by your safari guide for a refreshment at a restaurant in Kigali city, later you drive north of Rwanda about 2 hours’ drive through rolling hills up to mountain gorilla home, volcanoes national park. One of the most visited national parks in Rwanda for gorilla trekking safaris.  You will reach in the evening check in the lodge for dinner and overnight and prepare for the next day.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu Gisenyi resort town  

Wake up so early and prepare for the day, 07:00 am after breakfast transfer to Kinigi park quarters for briefing on gorilla rules and regulations as well as expectations. Gorilla tracking is an interesting hike amidst interspersed bamboo in search of the gentle giants. It’s an experience once you find a settled gorilla family in its natural environment going about it normal day, feeding, playing around with the young ones. When you meet them, remember to calm down, observe all the rules briefed and enjoy your one hour with the gorillas taking as many photographs as you can capture. Connect back to the starting point and drive to Lake Kivu. When you arrive early afternoon, you can enjoy relaxing at beaches, water sports like swimming, canoeing, and jet boats or take a boat cruise exploring many islands and enjoying scenic views. Diner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and back on the road for 6–7-hour scenic drive to Nyungwe forest national park, home to 12 primate species including chimpanzees. The journey takes you via the Congo-Nile divide trail with beautiful views. Reach your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk

After breakfast, you will head to Uwinka visitor center for a briefing. Chimpanzee tracking will begin at 07:30 am as you are led  by the ranger guides into the forest in search for chimpanzees and when they are located enjoy a full hour with them. Alongside chimpanzees, you will also spot other primate species such as blue monkey, L’hoest monkey, owl-faced monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, crowned monkey, Velvet monkeys. Return for lunch at the lodge. In afternoon, you will go for a canopy walk between 50-60 meters above the ground, the highest forest bridges in east Africa.  It’s an amazing experience to photography Nyungwe landscape, spot birds, and primates. Return to your lodge for diner and overnight stay

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali city and departure 

After breakfast, you drive back to Kigali via Butare where you make a stopover and visit ethnographic museum. Continue to Kigali where you can visit Kigali genocide center and explore craft markets, have time to buy souvenirs. Later transfer to the airport for departure.
