brief Itinerary for 15 Days Uganda Tour

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to your lodge in Kampala City

You are welcome on arrival at Entebbe Airport, meet and greet with your guide who shall drive and take you to your hotel for bed and breakfast in Kampala. You may stay at Caasia Lodge (mid-range)/ Metropole Hotel (luxury)/Golf Course Hotel (mid-range).

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park with en route visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Enjoy your breakfast early morning so that at 08:00am you start a 6 hour journey with your guide to Murchison Falls National Park. A stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary with en route lunch is relevant for a complete big five African mammals encounter. Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is a home to 15 critically endangered southern white Rhinos; you will track them on foot for 1-3 hours as you also encounter duikers, birds and monkeys. Proceed to the park and check in at Paara Safari Lodge (luxury)/ or Red Chill Rest Camp (budget) for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise 

You will wake up at 06:00am for coffee and then take a 3-4 hour game drive with a ranger. This game drive takes you along the Albert-Nile delta where you will encounter herds of elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe, antelopes, lions, leopard, and buffalos and thereafter return to your lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later in the afternoon take a 3 hour launch trip (snacks and drinks on board) rewarding with close views of Nile crocodiles, hippos, African elephants, buffalos and birds like African fish eagle, hammer kop and many more. 15 Days Uganda Tour, Before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight, take a 1 hour hike to the top of Murchison Falls where you will be surprised by the force of rapids squeezing through a narrow gorge to create a permanent rainbow and a violent roar.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park- The Primate Capital of the World with 13 Species.

After your breakfast, drive for 7 hours to Kibale national park popular for the highest population of 13 primate species including the chimpanzee. This evergreen tropical forest has a mixture of swamps, savannah woodlands and grasslands which make it ideal habitat for 70 species of mammals and 325 birds. You will pass through rural areas with picturesque banana plantations and crop fields with en route lunch arriving late in the afternoon at primate lodge Kibale (luxury) or budget chimpanzee guest house for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland Nature Walk

Today as requirement you should wake up early at 06:00am for breakfast.  From your lodge, transfer to Kanyanchu the main visitor centre with hiking gears, cameras and packed lunch; attend to a short briefing session from the guide about rules and regulations of tracking chimps. 15 Days Uganda Tour, Thereafter guided by an experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority guide, enter the forest search and locate the habituated family of chimpanzee. You will spend only 1 hours watching how they feed, play, hunt and groom.

You might also encounter lots of birds, primate species like black and white Colobus monkey, Ugandan red Colobus monkey and mammals like forest elephants, forest hogs and bush duikers. Return to your lodge for lunch and after take a nature walk to Bigodi wetland which is a community based venture where local people benefit from tourism. During your 2 hour nature walk, you will encounter primates, birds like great blue turaco, mongoose, waterbucks, waterbucks, Sitatunga antelope and bush pigs. Tourists will also get a chance to visit the African homesteads to experience the day to day lifestyles of rural women specialize in making quality souvenirs such as baskets, mats, shopping bags and beads.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park   

After you’re your breakfast in the morning, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park, Uganda’s most visited park. Expect to see African predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, wild cats and a list of 610 birds plus a diversity of habitats ranging from savannah, wetlands and rift valley lakes to tropical forests. With En route lunch to the park you will pass through Kasese town with clear views of the Mt. Rwenzori and lakes George and Edward. Check in at Enganzi lodge (mid range) or Mweya Safari lodge (luxury) for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Early Morning Game Drive and a Boat Cruise in the Afternoon.

After taking your early morning cup of coffee, take a 3-4 hour game drive exploring the famous black crater lakes devoid of water. In this area you shall see lions, buffalos, elephants, if lucky encounter nocturnal leopards or civets. Other mammals you will see include giant forest hogs, Uganda Kob, bush bucks and monkeys like baboons, blue monkey, Red Tailed monkey and vervet monkeys. Return to your lodge for lunch and after later take a 2 hour boat cruise on Kazinga channel. This boat cruise offers you a chance to see water birds like lesser swamp warbler, herons, kingfishers, hippos, crocodiles, buffalos and elephants plus picturesque lakeside views. Get back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Drive to Southern Ishasha sector for tree climbing lions and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park 

Queen Elizabeth national park’s southern area is the only place to see tree climbing lions and also experience more of this park’s wildlife. After your breakfast, your guide shall drive south with a game drive where you will marvel at tree climbing lions, defassa water buck, 15 Days Uganda Tour, Uganda Kob and eland the largest African antelope. You will have lunch at the budget Ishasha river camp or Ishasha wilderness camp (luxury) and later continue arriving in Bwindi late evening. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight. You may stay at Buhoma Rest Camp (budget) or Silverback lodge (luxury).

 

Day 9: Mountain Gorilla tracking and Batwa cultural encounter- Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Today you will have a once in a life time wildlife encounter, wake up at 06:00am for breakfast and the transfer to Buhoma the park headquarters where you will be briefed by the Uganda wildlife authority guides about the rules and regulations of tracking gorillas. As soon as the briefing is done, get ready with hiking gears, packed lunch and water. Then grab your walking stick for support since the trails can be muddy and slippery. In this magnificent forest you will see birds, butterflies, tree ferns, orchids, primates, bush duikers as you search for the habituated gorilla family. Once gorillas are found, spend one hour photographing, seeing how they foliage. This may take 8 hours depending on the time taken to locate the gorillas.

Return to your lodge for lunch and if you are still determined take an afternoon walk in the communities. This activity can take 3 hours, your guide will take you to the Batwa homestead meet and interact with the shortest people in Africa, witness their traditions like dances, fire making and hunting. You may visit craft shops or Ride for a woman community centre to buy quality African souvenirs on return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10:  Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – A place of many little birds

After your breakfast in the morning, via the Muko-Bufundi road passing through rolling terraced hills of kigezi region popular as the “Switzerland of Africa” offer memorable pictures. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the beautiful lakes in Africa with 29 islands, 200 birds and sandy beaches where you will relax after a tiresome gorilla trekking. It will take 2 hours to reach Lake Bunyonyi Africa’s second deepest lake, 15 Days Uganda Tour, check in at Arcadia lodge (luxury), overland resort (budget)/ Bunyonyi safari lodge (mid-range).  Before dinner and a peaceful overnight, take a canoe on a beautiful sunset to explore the islands, watch birds, swim, visit local homesteads and taste the local food of southwestern Uganda like Irish, Millet and fruits.

 

Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Today you will enjoy breakfast on the shores of the lake Bunyonyi and after drive to Lake Mburo National Park for about 5 hours via Kabale-Mbarara road with en route lunch at Igongo cultural centre in Mbarara town. Proceed and arrive in Lake Mburo National Park in the evening viewing animals like impalas, zebras by the road side. Have your dinner and overnight at Mburo Safari Lodge (luxury)/ Rwakobo Rock Edge (mid range)/ Eagles Nest Rest Camp (budget).

Day 12: Early Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise

You will start your day with a game drive starting at 06:30am in the morning; you are guaranteed to see buffalos, zebras, impalas, bush bucks, waterbucks, elephants, eland, and bush pigs. Return to your lodge for late breakfast relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo where you will see crocodiles, hippos, water birds like the African fin foot and mammals like elephants, buffalos on the shorelines. Back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Morning Nature Walk and transfer to Jinja the Adventure Capital of Uganda

Early morning you wake up on a cup of coffee; get ready for a 2 hour nature walk with a Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger. You have a chance to explore the vegetation and wildlife in this park on foot on an African sunrise. There are salty rocks where a mixture of antelopes, zebras, buffalos and small browsers like hare can be found. Such an experience is unique to Lake Mburo only. Buffalos, impalas, zebras, bushbucks are seen licking salt; you might encounter spotted hyenas and hippos also. The most rewarding experience is when you stand on top of a hill with breathtaking views of the Whole Park and lakes that make up the Nakivali wetland a ramsar site. Woodland birds like king fisher; guinea fowl, Bee eaters and many more are seen as you return to your lodge for breakfast.

Thereafter check out and drive to Jinja town at the source of river Nile via Kampala city with en route lunch. This journey will take 5 hours passing through large scale sugar cane plantations arriving evening for dinner and overnight at Paradise Hotel (mid range) or Jinja Nile Resort (luxury).

Day 14: Sunset boat cruise on the source of the Nile/ bungee jumping

A relaxed breakfast from your lodge with good views and cool breeze of the Nile, take a sunset boat ride and bungee jumping. Leave Jinja town en route to Kampala city, visit the Sezibwa waterfalls and Mabira forest reserve where you will appreciate culture and traditions of eastern Uganda plus zip lining in the canopies of Mabira forest reserve. Arrive in Kampala late afternoon, 15 Days Uganda Tour, relax at your hotel and experience the friendly city Kampala by night, with a security agent and guide visit the dazzling night clubs, taste Ugandan unique foods like Rolex, Nyama Choma (meat brochettes). Return to your lodge for bed and breakfast.

Day 15: Kampala city Tour and departure at Entebbe Airport

After your breakfast at your hotel, take time and check out for a tour around Kampala city built across seven hills but has expanded to include over 10 hills. Your guide shall take you first to the Uganda museum just 5 km from Kampala.  This is the oldest museum in east Africa with over 1 million ethnographic and fossil specimens. You will spend one hour visiting the several museum exhibits, u will witness Ugandan skillful artisan life, music gallery featuring all traditional musical instruments of Uganda as well as science and industry. From there visit the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine is a catholic church with unique architecture where 14 believers shed their blood because of Christian faith, visit also the UNESCO world heritage Kasubi Tombs built in a traditional Buganda architecture where all previous Buganda kings were buried. You will wind up your 15 days in the African craft shops at the Ugandan National Culture Centre and later drop off at Entebbe airport for departure flight.
